OSHA Violation Categories
Other-than-Serious: A violation that has a direct relationship to job safety
and health, but probably would not cause death or serious physical harm.
Serious: A violation where there is substantial probability that death or serious
physical harm could result.
Willful: A violation that the employer intentionally and knowingly commits, or
commits with plain indifference to the law.
Repeated: A violation of any OSHA standard where the employer has been cited for
the same or similar violation within the past 5 years.
Failure to Abate: Failing to correct a prior violation may incur a penalty of
up to $16,550 per day beyond the abatement date.
